Ontario Provincial Notes, June 1996 Temiskaming District Last summer an older lady was bicycling to the local mall to pick up some odds and sods at the store. When she got there her pant leg got caught in the chain of her bike. A group of boys nearby were laughing at her dilemma while she was struggling to get herself unstuck. Charlie Robertson, a local Scout saw this and helped her extricate herself from the chain. When asked by the lady why it was that he helped her when the others didn't, he replied ... "BECAUSE I'M A SCOUT!" (Thanks to John Dickins, Provincial Field Executive, Northeastern Ontario for sharing this.) 1st Wiarton Group, Bruce North District The Scouts, Cubs and Beavers gathered at a local nursing home to sing Christmas carols and entertain the residents. This was the first time they had done this and they all left with a very warm feeling in their hearts. Of significance is the fact that the nursing home administrator asked if the Scouts would be willing to help escort the residents on supervised outings to the local shopping mall or perhaps to church on Sundays. The will be our "good turn" action. It also emphasizes a little used extension of the Scout motto — Be Prepared "To Help". (Thanks to Jerry Auger, 1st Wiarton Scouts for sharing this.)
