October 1998 Good Turns happen in so many, many different ways. Take the case of Wendy for instance. Wendy is five and her father has just discovered the excitement of surfing the net. The trouble is that one of his favourite times is the hour before dinner, an hour which used to belong to Wendy. So she asked her mother to cut a large hole in a pizza box lid and mark across the bottom WWW.Wendy. Wendy held her pizza screen in front of her face one evening and walked in and stood beside her father. He was busy swapping jokes with some surfing buddies in Australia when he looked up and saw her. "What's up sweetheart?" he asked. Wendy looked up at him and answered, "I'm a web site too, daddy." A lightning bolt couldn't have hit her dad with more force. He turned the computer off, swept her into his arms and smothered her with kisses as he carried her into the kitchen. He turned to his wife, "Dear, our daughter has just delivered this Scouter husband of yours the Good Turn message of a lifetime! I had no idea ..." "Welcome back," his wife replied. "We've missed you." I guess we all know the end of this story and why not ... after all we are the Good Turn people, aren't we? — Jim Russell Last updated: October 8, 2000 |
