Why Not Adopt an Angel?
December 2000

I can't imagine Christmas without angels, can you? But why do we think of angels when we think of Christmas? Maybe it's because of the thing called Christmas spirit. At Christmas, something seems to grip our hearts and softens them. Suddenly, we're alive with a love and concern for others that explodes in a wonderful outpouring of generosity.

Angels are right at home in that kind of amazing atmosphere. But, their lives are lived like that all year 'round. I think that's what set us apart from angels. Once the Christmas season has passed, it's almost impossible for us to keep our Good Turn activities at the Christmastime level. But maybe there is a way.

Why not adopt an angel? "How do you adopt an angel?" you ask. I know someone who starts out each morning by planning at least one Good Turn project for the day. I believe that they have adopted an angel. Surely we can all find some way to invite an angel into our lives, an angel who would gently and quietly keep the flame of Christmas aglow in our hearts through the ice of February, the heat of July and on into December again.

I think it's possible because angels and Good Turns go hand in hand and after all, we are the Good Turn people, aren't we?

Have a wonderful Good Turn Christmas.
