Circus

Listed below are a few ideas for a little different camp than any you've had before.

Decorations — borrow a marquee; make a ticket kioske out of cardboard; a circus wagon; a circus style cage with stuffed animals in it; hula hoops on the floor for rings; dress a toy (stuffed) dog (poodle) as a circus dog.

Food — hot dogs and hamburgs are standard fare; rent a candy floss machine; popcorn; snowcones; make a refreshment stand; have someone "sell" popcorn and peanuts; give the Beavers play money to buy stuff.

Favors — balloons; posters; clown faces; anything with a clown or circus animal on it; let Beavers make the posters.

Entertainment — a clown (he can do a show or walkaround); face painting; let Beavers come up with their own circus acts and entertain the group; a magic show; look into renting a petting zoo.

Activities and Games — let Beavers be part of the circus, not just looking in; make simple costumes and props; have props available such as for a strong man, bearded lady, clown, tightrope walker, lion tamer (be creative and work with the Beavers); clown colouring contest; be a clown contest.

Clown

Here is a late spring camp we had, just after the annual Guide-Scout Parade. At this time of the year the weather can be quite warm, so it is important to let Beavers play together if they are having fun. The program is not as important as the social interaction that young children have when they have fun playing together. When things slow down, they get bored, into trouble, or really a change in direction, should you use your program chip.

Saturday
1:00 — Meet at camp, store gear, make smiley clown face name tags
1:30 — Opening and camp rules
1:45 — Face painting; refreshments:  koolaid, popcorn and fruit slices; bean bag toss, ring toss, water balloon toss; balloon stomp, clown craft magnet, beach ball volleyball
4:30 — Drive to Mount Nemo; hike with backpacks containing supper:  pudding cups (with gummy worms), fruit snacks, juice boxes, hot dogs and chips, carrot slices
6:30 — Skit work, cheers and songs
7:00 — Crafts:  clown hair, clown shoes
8:00 — Short hike ending at the campfire circle
9:00 — Campfire
9:30 — Mug-Up:  Rice Crispy treats, juice and story
10:00 — Wash up, brush teeth, pjs and bed

Sunday
8:00 — Rise and shine, dressed, teeth and start clean up
8:30 — Breakfast:  Breakfast of pancakes, sausage, cold cereal, juice or milk. Clean up and face painting. 9:00 — Beaver's Own - Dooley:  Christian Clown

Miscellaneous ideas

Pirate theme — put a treasure outside during a sleepover. Beavers are told they must protect the chest at all times. During the night, it gets stolen, but there is a balloon trail to follow for them to find the treasure.

Some activities might be: walk the plank, boarding and enemy ship, boat races, treasure hunt, dig for buried treasure, "jig" dancing, cannonball rolling, dodging cannonballs.

Some craft ideas are: eye patch, pirate hat, ship/boat building, carrot cannon (good snack), tattoos and scars.

Santa/Christmas Camp — During a hike, see if Beavers can spot Santa. A leader is dressed as Santa and keeps just out of contact during the hike, although Beavers can get glimpses of him and hear his bells.
