Table Graces for Beavers
Having a grace at meals is another way of making connections between ordinary events and your god. The intention here is to have graces that are short, simple, and easy for Beavers to learn and sing.
Graces to be Sung
Bless Our Friends, Bless Our Food (tune: Edelweiss)
Bless our friends, bless our food,
Come, O Lord and sit with us.
May our talks glow with peace,
May your love surround us.
Friendship and love,
May they bloom and grow,
Bloom and grow, forever.
Bless our friends, bless our food.
Come, O Lord and sit with us.
God Our Father (tune: Are You Sleeping, Frère Jacques)
God Our Father, God Our Father,
Once again, once again,
We would ask your blessing
We would ask your blessing;
Amen, Amen.
Hark to the Chimes (tune: Big Ben)
Hark to the chimes,
Come bow your head.
We thank Thee, Lord,
For our good bread.
Johnny Appleseed
Oh, the Lord is good to me.
And so I thank the Lord,
For giving me the things I need
The sun and the rain and the apple seed
Oh, the Lord is good to me.
[ And every seed I sow
Will grow into a tree,
And someday there'll be apples there
For everyone in the world to share.
Oh, the Lord is good to me.
Johnny Appleseed, Amen. ]
Round of Thanks
For health, and strength,
And daily bread,
We praise your name, O Lord.
Thanks Be To God (tune: Windy)
Thanks be to God the Father Almighty.
Thanks be to God who gave us this Earth.
Thanks be to God the Spirit Eternal.
Thanks be to God forever.
Thank You Lord (tune: Edelweiss)
Thank you Lord on this day,
For our many good blessings,
Thank you Lord on this day,
For our many close friendships,
Glory to God, may you hear our prayer
Guide us on forever,
Thank you Lord on this day,
For our blessings and friendships.
Superman (tune: Superman theme)
Thank you God for giving us food!
(both hands in a fist; left hand on waist; right arm in the air)
Thank you God for giving us food!
(both hands in a fist; right hand on waist; left arm in the air)
Our daily bread!
(switch to right arm in the air)
We're gonna get fed!
(switch back to left arm in the air)
Thank you God for giving us food!
(both hands on waist like Superman stance)
Graces to be Spoken
As we enjoy this earthly food,
At this table you have spread,
We'll not forget to thank you, God,
For all our daily bread.
Lord, Bless the food on our table.
Keep us healthy, strong and able.
Bless, O Lord, this food to our use and us to your service.
For every cup and plateful,
God make us truly grateful.
For food, for clothing,
For friendship, for family
For life, for opportunity,
We thank thee, O Lord.
For health and friends
And daily food
We give you thanks, O Lord.
God we thank you for this food
For rest and home and all things good
For wind and rain and sun above
But most of all for those we love.
'Neath these tall green trees we stand,
Asking blessings from His hand.
Thanks we give to Thee above,
For Thy health and strength and love.
Thank you for the world so sweet
Thank you for the food we eat
Thank you for the birds that sing
Thank you, God, for everything.
The bread is on our table
Bless those who have no bread
And give us grace in sharing
This bounty round us spread.
This happy meal will happier too
If we, O God, remember you.
We thank you, God, for food this day
Thank you, God, for things to eat
For fruit and milk, for bread and meat
Thank you, God, for words to say
So we can speak and we can pray.
We thank you, God, for happy hearts,
For fine and sunny weather,
We thank you, God, for this our food,
And that we are together.
[Hands up in front of you.]
Open, shut them, open, shut them,
Make your hands go clap, clap, clap.
Open, shut them, open, shut them,
Put them in your lap, lap, lap.
Thank you God for our food.

A large thank you to those anonymous scouters who posted most of the singing graces on the walls of Kekedowigamig at Blue Springs Scout Reserve. Thanks also to many of my scouting and personal friends who contributed most of the spoken graces.
Send us your comments, ideas and suggestions.
